Assessment of Language and Literacy
Assessment of Language and Literacy
Elborn College, Western University
Young children develop language and literacy skills at different rates. Sometimes concern arises regarding a child's development in one or both of these areas. It is important to have reliable and valid measures of children's language and literacy. These measures help parents and speech-language pathologists know if there is reason to be concerned about a child's development in these areas. In this study, we are gathering data to help us evaluate a measure of language and literacy.

Who can participate in this study?
We are inviting children who are 4 to 6 years of age and are primarily English speaking. Children must not have a diagnosed intellectual disability, moderate to severe hearing impairment, or social and/or emotional disorders that would make it difficult for them to complete study activities.
What is involved?
Your child will complete two study sessions at the H.A. Leeper Speech and Hearing Clinic at Elborn College, Western University. The two study sessions might be about 5 months apart or 1 week apart. The visits will be approximately 60 to 90 minutes and your child will be asked to do language and literacy activities like naming pictures, making up sentences, and pointing to pictures. At one of the visits, weˇll ask the childˇs caregiver to answer some questions about the childˇs development as well.
