Who can participate in this study?

Participation will be limited to those over 18 years of age and below 65 years of age. Participants must own a smartphone (iPhone or Android) to participate.

What is involved?

Our study involves 3 assessments over the span of 8 weeks. On day 1 of the study, all participants will complete an online cognitive assessment and a questionnaire about mindfulness, anxiety, depression, and sleep quality. They will then begin the 8-week study according to their group assignments. Participants will randomly be placed in one of the following groups:

1) participants will use the Waking Up meditation app for 10 minutes each morning and 10 minutes each night, for a minimum of 4 days per week, , for 8 weeks;

2) participants will listen to nature-based soundscapes for 10 minutes each morning and 10 minutes each night, for a minimum of 4 days per week, for 8 weeks;

3) participants will not partake in any meditation practices or listen to any soundscapes.

At 4 weeks, participants will complete the same online cognitive assessment and questionnaire as in day 1. After 8 weeks, participants will stop all activities associated with their group and complete the assessments again. This study can be done entirely remotely.
