Talker familiarity and speech perception in hearing-impaired individuals

Familiar voices, that is, voices with which we have strong long-term familiarity with, are able to be more easily understood under challenging listening conditions.The goal of the present project is to investigate if familiar voices are easier to process than unfamiliar ones.
18 years or older
Normal hearing/vision
Proficient in English
Who can participate in this study?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be older than 18 years of age
- Have learned North American English as your first language
- Have no history of neurological issues
- Have normal or corrected vision
- Have no difficulty hearing
What is involved?
If you agree to participate, you will be seated in a soundproof room and will listen to different speakers over headphones. Participating in this study involves one 3-hour visit to the laboratory at the Western Interdisciplinary Research building. Compensation is $15/hour, for a total of $45.
