We are looking for volunteers to take part in a study of the contextual contributors to young children's social and emotional development.

Children 6 to 8 years old

Healthy volunteers

No diagnosis of ASD or ADHD


Who can participate in this study?

All children 6-to-8-year-old without neurodevelopmental disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and their parents/caregivers. Children from non-immigrant English-speaking families or first-generation immigrant Arabic-speaking families and their parents/caregivers and teacher may participate in this study.

What is involved?

Your participation would involve one 2-hour long session in Dr. Raha Hassanˇs Social and Emotional Wellbeing Lab, which is housed in the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building (WIRB) at Western University. Parents/caregivers will be asked to complete demographic and temperament questionnaires, help your child record and upload a video where your child shares information about themselves (e.g., favourite colours, foods, hobbies), help your child join a Zoom call, and bring your child to the in-person lab session. Children will be asked to record and upload a video sharing information about themselves (e.g., favourite colours, foods, hobbies), join a Zoom call, and attend an in-person session where they will complete a series of tasks individually and complete a series of tasks with one other child.
